You read correctly. Me and Drew were taking some time off to dub over over 25 minutes off of Ralph Bakshi’s lovable “Lord of the Rings Part 1″ (to which part 2 was sadly never realized… if you are following us, Ralph… PLEASE FINISH THE QUEST! I’d WATCH IT OVER 25 TIMES!)

However, as much as we’d love to spill all of them beans all at once, we will not. I have to tweak a few sounds and each new dub will be released perhaps three or four days apart. Please bear with us as this is the best option. It enables all of you not to overindulge yourselves, and watch them all in their glory in turn. Trust me its for the best.

With that said, we have only 17 minutes left to actually dub and before you know it… the movie is over. It’s such a sweet sorrow isn’t it? I mean, if only Bakshi would finish up the whole thing!

I also really messed up my voice afterward. I hope you’ll really come to appreciate the lengths I take for all of you watching. Because… I-I…. I love you. All of you.

so keep your frackin’ eyes peeled in a few days for the next one… and next one…. and next one… and next one… and NEXT one!

HEY PEOPLE! Well, it seems our LOTR dubs are getting produced much faster than expected. Hopefully this will be a pretty fast dart to the finish line. As you have heard, we will be making a DVD (okay, I will). On it will be bonus materials! Many, many things! Such as the incomplete Rankin/Bass ROTK dubs (starring Tim), and a few behind-the-microphone segments. Maybe even a commentary or two. This will be available for FREE (because it’s pretty illegal to be selling something like this) on bittorrent or mail-in (basically, just send an empty dual-layer DVD and I’ll burn it and send it back). Obviously, for copyright reasons… you have to have the original film (The unadulterated Bakshi LOTR movie)… (whatever).

Secondly, does anyone use Tumblr? I have no idea what it is, but a friend of mine uses it and I tried it out. It’s kind of fun to be posting random things I do on it, but its kind of fruitless because there is no comment, AND no one really reads or watches anything I post on there! Plus, all Tumblr does is remind me of that inconveniently large batmobile from the new Batman series. 

Also, here’s a link to this really funky guy called Jakerno. He’s the voice of Bilbo in our dubs, and is a generally cool guy. Yes, this is kind of blatant linking promotion… but what the heck, you might find it entertaining.

In other news, I wish I had more people reading this, because I like writing on it occasionally, but I usually don’t have much to say. Wait, did I just answer my own question?

P.S. I might be uploading all the episodes on BLIP.TV … so incase our youtube account gets killed off, you’ll have them all on there!

Oh yeah, baby. We’re back. We’ve been meditating about it and have a very good plan for the rest of the series. Trust me, you’ll like it. The vacation I was on was fun and everything, and I had a lot of downtime to think of what to do for the last half. Gandalf returns, Boromir dies, and the film doesn’t have a proper ending! What will happen when the characters within the film find that out!?

Not to mention the battle at Helm’s Deep… with (S)Aruman’s light show going off. Once its over, I really hope it will have a life of its own, and continue to touch more people’s hearts with pure joy and wonder… Contact ThatGuyWithTheGlasses! Tell them to just mereley MENTION this! Daaaaah! We gotta’ scramble!

Sorry for the many delays this thing is getting, but we get busy and occasionally uncreative. Hope its still funny!

Let's Talk

Rawwglefragglemarrgledurrgle! Okay, so here’s the deal: It’s summer and that means colleges kick everyone out. That also means Drew will be able, but most likely not willing to, finish up the second part of the 1978 wonder of our “Lord of the Rings” dub! This is good. However, I must force him.

Oh yeah, Star Trek came out. That crazy piece of work… alright, do you want to know what I thought? Well, I thought EXACTLY what the famous(er than us) James Rolfe (aka the Angry Video Game Nerd) thought. Yes. Click that link and watch his video. It’s good. My thoughts exactly.

So, I was doodling around and I was actually watching my own LOTR dubs! It was alright, I guess. So I drew my first Gandalf (1978 style) and this kind of is our mood this month:

He looked at it... gave it a good look... kept looking at it for a long time!

So yeah! Is that all I have to say? Well, you can always check out some new stuff I made on Flickr, DeviantArt, or whatever. I mean, it’s all good right?

Behold, assorted thoughts!

Artists, writers, movie-makers, and Americans in general are obsessed with success.  While at first glance this word looks like it means “sucks in excess,” everybody is trying to achieve it.

Most of the time, people think that success is limited to commercial success, meaning how popular it is, or how much money it makes.  In the fine art world, success is not a term that means that a piece sold for a lot of money, but that it is of artistic merit.  This is the definition of success that I will be using in this post.

Since artistic merit is often followed by commercial success, people naturally connect the two.  The thing is, there are commercially very successful things that do not have much artistic merit, such as High School Musical 2, or Pirates of the Caribbean 3.  So what is it that gives something, such as a short video, success?

Only YOU can get us to reach more people!

In the case of our Bakshi dubs, how can we become successful, not in the commercial sense, but in the sense that our work has a good flow and is well conceived?

That is what I’ve been thinking of lately, and I think most of it is just gut reaction.  Phil knows a lot about successful movie making, and I know a bit about how to tell a good joke.  Most of our best stuff has been reflexes.  The question is, could we figure out how to make all of the dubs of the highest caliber?  What would it look like to do so?

I’m still trying to figure it out.  There’s a look inside my head.  I know I’m taking myself way too seriously, but I’ve been reading Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series lately (today I read Dream Country), and it makes me think about stepping up my game.  Because he’s so darn awesome.

We have reached the INTERMISSION, and we are moving directly onward with our Lord Of The Rings dubbing.  We have uploaded the first of two new Bakshi destruction videos. This was the final video before the halfway mark of the entire project.

Stay tuned, because we have also made “significant progress” on the intermission dub.  It’s not up, but it’s in progress.

Last night, we also enjoyed a Hayao Miyazaki treasure, Castle In The Sky. It was very Miyazaki-like in nature (obviously), maintaining some of the same themes and characters as in some of his other movies.  The music is very good, and Phil is quite taken with it.  However, he’s having some difficulty getting ahold of the soundtrack that was used for the English version of the film..

We are glad to upload new videos.  Hopefully we will be able to get one more before I must return to the land and the lake where I reside.

Back in the USA...

So something terrible has happened.  All across the nation, there have been ice and snow storms, making life impossible, or at least more adventurous, for all.  I am walled in my home, far away from the dubs I love.  Although we have written some interesting if not excellent jokes for our next segment of the LOTR Dubs.  Phil did most of the writing this time around, but I went back and refined just a few things, as to create optimum whatever it is that makes people want to watch these things.

Also, we uploaded our videos to this other place and they were snapped up.  Over a hundred views per video in just one day!  This is encouraging, no matter how hard the wind blows.

In the weeks to come, we hope to show you a multitude of fantastic visual fantasies to help you fantasize about the fantastical world of Ralph Bakshi.  Although the holidays will be interrupting our fun a little, we hope to turn them into a joyous period of merriment and delight.  We just need to be able to drive first.

I Googled good old Ralphy, since he is the man of the hour every hour, and found that he has a blog section on his website where he puts up a doodle every day.  I checked, and saw there were no comments for the week.  In fact, there weren’t any comments since mid-November, and that post was full of spam comments with just one real comment.  I went back and counted all of the real comments that he has recieved on his blog, which has been posted since 2005, and there were only 40 (despite 655 spam comments).  I doubt it will take long for this blog to surpass his…

So there you have it.  If anyone feels like giving me relatively large sums of money, that would be awesome!  Otherwise, I am finished writing for the day.

I am looking at my words with indifference...

Just for the record, the title will have nothing to do with this post.

So, the real blogging has begun, and so has some thinking on our dubbing.  We not only have an idea for the next dub, but we also have several ideas to extend our Burger King viral advertising campaign.  As Christmas break progresses, you should see these ideas come to fruition (meaning actually appear on Youtube).

What would happen if you could subscribe to our dubs on iTunes?  Well, I hope you’re ready, because we’re looking into podcasting our little dubby things and placing them on iTunes for the world to ignore!

If you don’t like iTunes, then come over to the dark side with me and subscribe in your favorite third-party program.

Over the next month, there should be an explosion of work posted on our Youtube account, because I am home and motivated(ish).  We really need to get back to where we were when these dubs were really humming along.

I like dubbing.   I also like books.  I am reading a book called Art and Fear right now, and it is excellent, whether you’re a writer, musician, or any other kind of artist (or anybody for that matter).

Ok.  I’m going back to my all-important Lego work.

So, just for the record, the blog was my idea.  I figured that we should have a more permanent base of operations than our Youtube account, which could easily be deleted again.  Also, this allows for us to document other things that we are doing at the time.  It makes a lot of sense to me.

The plan is this: Phil and I trade off writing every other day, skipping Sundays to make it even.  You can expect me to post again tomorrow, since this is just an introduction blog.

I am a Digital Media Arts major at Huntington University, which is in northern Indiana.  I come back from school to pester Phil every once in a while, since my home in Anderson is just over an hour from school.

That’s enough about me.  I will NOT be blogging next week because of a business trip that I’m taking, which will put me out of the country, and most likely out of reach of internet access.

Until then, I think it is important to note that we really do care about your feedback.  We read all of your comments on the videos (and elsewhere), and we are really tickled when we find references to our humor on the web.  We have just as much fun watching you have fun as we do… having fun otherwise.

I love cheese. You know that? Cheese! Holy gluhabpahar, cheese is amazing. By the way, I’m the faaaaaar better looking picture on the left of our little “logo-thing”. Punching things. In fact, I drew that; yes, I draw stuff.

I lied. Cheese is good, but I am in no way infatuated by it on an obsessive basis. Sorry, it’s 3:21 AM, what am I supposed to think about!?

Okay, so I’m supposed to start out this wonderful “blog” as a collaboration effort on humor and information, with my accomplice on this subject: Drew Vosburg.

I’m Phil Dragash, by the way.

Anyway, you might know us as the weirdos that make these dubs (i.e. voice-overs) or “dubbs” on THIS PAGE OF GLORY AND WONDER. Yes, we make the “Lord of the Rings Animated Film” ones together. I mix them, record them,

add sounds, and am most of the voices: Gandalf (yes the weird ‘old-man’ noises too), Frodo,

Aragorn, Sam, Caesar Elrond, the orcs, some Ringwraiths (aka the Brown Riders), Saruman, Sméagol/Gollum, and the “Bwwaaaalhrog”. Drew makes up the most amazing jokes and stories for these dubs.
Also, with this blog, we’d be delighted to educate, show, tell, and break the sorry sap of your mind with things that we create and discuss about.
